I am going to Edinborough on Monday to visit The Royal Observatory and the Castle. There is lots of history associated with the observatory. John Russel Hind was based there for a while. He was a fellow of the Royal Society both of London and of Edinburgh, being elected to the former on 4 June 1863; the university of Glasgow conferred upon him an honorary degree of LL.D. in 1882.
